Colfe’s Junior School is an independent day school for boys and girls 3–11. Entrance is academically selective. The Junior School offers a broad curriculum and aims to provide an excellent all-round education. Small class sizes and a team of well-qualified teachers provide a caring and vibrant environment. Children normally enter at the ages of 3, 4 and 7+, and the occasional vacancy arises at other times.
For the children starting school it is the beginning of an exciting and inspiring journey; this begins in our Nursery and Reception classes which together form the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Children gain confidence and thrive in a warm, friendly and nurturing atmosphere where they feel secure and valued. Through a specialised play-based curriculum, teachers plan for a rich learning environment which provides opportunities for the children to flourish in all aspects of their development and includes regular visits to Forest School.
Pupils transition into KS1 through a carefully planned, evidence-based Continuous Provision curriculum, where they study all National Curriculum subjects in Year 1, and build progressively on the skills, knowledge, understanding and experience gained during their time in Nursery and Reception.
Moving into KS2 the focus shifts to three aspects of every child: talent, potential and character. Strong curriculum and expert teaching is underpinned by a rich programme of music, art, sport, drama and outdoor pursuits. Each pupil belongs to a House and they work as a team across the year by planning charitable activities, competing in tournaments and earning House points by demonstrating the school values.
The majority of Junior School pupils transfer to the Senior School at the end of Year 6, providing they achieve the qualifying standard.
The Junior School is housed in modern, purpose-built accommodation with spacious and well-equipped classrooms. Excellent library facilities and specialist accommodation for Art and Design, ICT and Science provide pupils with a stimulating environment in which to learn. Full use is made of the school’s on-site swimming pool, sports centre, visual and performing arts centre and extensive on-site playing fields.
PE specialists teach a wide range of sports and there is an extensive programme of House and inter-school sports matches. A school choir, orchestra, strings group and numerous ensembles perform frequently both in and out of school. Drama productions normally take place each term. There is a wide range of after-school clubs on offer (over 50 each week for the 7–11 year olds) and a Breakfast Club from 7.30 am and Late School scheme until 6.00 pm each day.
Charitable status. Colfe’s School is a Registered Charity, number 1109650. It exists to provide education for children.
