From January 2026, children may enter in the academic year after their third birthday. In their final year they are prepared for scholarships, entry to other independent schools and for entry to maintained schools. Many of the pupils take the Essex 11+ and the school has an excellent record of success in this examination.
The school maintains a high standard of academic education, giving great emphasis to a secure foundation in the basic subjects while offering a wide curriculum with specialist teaching in many areas.
There are flourishing art, music, drama, ICT, languages and PE departments. The school competes successfully in a wide range of sports at a local, regional and national level – football, rugby, netball, hockey, swimming, cricket, athletics and cross-country running.
There are many extracurricular activities and all the children are encouraged to work and to play hard in order to fulfil their potential.
The school aims to foster intellectual curiosity and to encourage individual and corporate work. Kindness and thought for others are given a high priority.
