With over 300 years of academic excellence, Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH) is one of the UK’s leading independent schools for high-achieving girls aged 7 to 18. LEH is a place of curiosity and adventure, where enthusiastic and bright young minds are encouraged to be bold and undaunted in their thoughts, actions, and dreams for the future and to discover the scope of their brilliance.
Bold Beginnings Start Here
Our Vision
LEH provides girls with a distinctive education that prepares them to take their place at the table, in the room and in the world, in their chosen sphere.
Our Mission
LEH fosters a culture that supports every pupil to achieve excellence and success, both shared and individual, to be fulfilled, and to have significant impact in every way she chooses.
Our Values
We choose to succeed.
We rise to challenges.
We lift those around us.
We inspire trust.
We encourage personal agency.
We embrace joy and laughter.
Learning That Sparks Brilliance
At LEH, we give pupils the opportunities and confidence to discover what they’re capable of and then go further still.
We ignite curiosity, encourage bold thinking, and build resilience through a rich academic and co-curricular experience. Every girl is supported by a strong community that celebrates ambition, creativity, and courage.
Our role goes beyond academic excellence. We help pupils develop their whole selves, so that they are emotionally intelligent, empathetic, and aware of their power to make a difference. They meet role models, collaborate as leaders, and learn to see possibility rather than limitation.
A Legacy of Excellence
Founded in 1710, LEH is one of the oldest independent girls’ schools in the country, which has grown to welcome around 1,000 students across 24 acres of playing fields and gardens.
Our facilities combine heritage with innovation: from science labs, music studios, design studios and a modern Arts Centre, to a refurbished indoor pool, a shared boat house, and a newly expanded Sixth Form Centre overlooking the grounds.
Academic Excellence with a Smile
Pupils are given encouragement, inspiration, and opportunity to experience new things, to take risks, and to innovate as they grow and discover more about themselves. They do this in the warmth and safety of a caring school community with mutual respect and positive relationships at its heart. We are proud to be a values-driven school, where difference is celebrated, and everyone feels like they belong.
Our curriculum is broad, creative, and ambitious. From Year 7 onwards, girls experience a wide range of subjects including two modern languages, Latin, Computer Science, Product Design and Life Advice (PSHE) along with completing an independent research project designed to develop critical academic techniques including independent study, self-reflection, research methodology, and presentation skills.
In Year 9, pupils begin to shape their academic journey with options such as Mandarin and Classics. At GCSE, the focus remains on breadth before specialisation, allowing every girl to explore her strengths before choosing her path.
In the Sixth Form, students select three or four A Levels from an extensive list, including Economics, History of Art, Politics, and Psychology. Most also complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), developing research, presentation and independent learning skills that prepare them for university and beyond.
Beyond the Classroom
A key strength of LEH is the breadth and vitality of its extra-curricular life and participation is encouraged at every level – fostering leadership, collaboration and a strong sense of social responsibility. Over 100 clubs run each week, from Music, Drama and Sport to Outward Bound, CCF and subject-based societies, all designed to spark curiosity and a lifelong love of learning beyond the classroom. In the Sixth Form, students take the lead running groups on political, environmental and ethical issues such as Model United Nations, Amnesty and Eco-Squad.
LEH is also deeply rooted in the local community, with pupils volunteering in local schools, running language and drama clubs, and supporting disadvantaged children and the elderly through the Service Volunteers programme.
Our Sixth Form curriculum enrichment programme, offered jointly with Hampton School, extends learning beyond the classroom with options from Thinking Skills to Car Maintenance, alongside leadership opportunities, volunteering, and academic mentoring.
A dedicated Careers and Futures Programme begins in Year 9 and continues throughout the school, supported by external experts, alumnae, and LEH’s own experienced team. Most of our Sixth Formers progress to Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, as well as leading institutions in North America and beyond, others choose to have a gap year or consider degree apprenticeships, but all are supported in their choices both during and beyond Sixth Form.
LEH Junior School (188 pupils aged 7–11) is accommodated in a separate building in the grounds and shares the LEH ethos of encouraging girls to ask questions, explore their passions, and embrace every opportunity with open hearts and bold minds. It is a happy, inclusive community where every girl is valued for who she is as an integral part of the whole school community and shares many of the specialist facilities available for Seniors.
The LEH Difference
LEH is a school where ambition meets compassion, where tradition meets innovation and where every girl begins to see not just what she can do, but who she can become.
Entrance. Pupils join LEH Junior School from the age of 7, the Senior School at 11 years, and Sixth Form at 16 years. LEH Junior School pupils are guaranteed places in the Senior School. All external applicants must take the School’s ISEB and Problem-Solving entrance examinations, which are held in November for Sixth Form, Senior School, and Junior School entry (7+,11+ and 16) for admission in the following September. There are no internal hurdles for entry to Sixth Form. Registration and the Entrance Examination Fee is £180, or £240 (Incl VAT) for overseas applications.
Scholarships and Bursaries
11+ Entry Academic Scholarships: Academic and Music scholarships are available and are expressed as percentages of the full fee and will thus keep pace with any fee increases. Awards are not means-tested and are for 10%. The awards are based solely on performance in the school’s own Entrance Examinations and subsequent interview.
Bursaries: Candidates who sit entrance papers at any stage from 11+ onwards may be considered for a bursary award. These are means-tested and available for up to 100% of fees, plus extras. Subject to annual review.
Sixth Form Academic Scholarships: Scholarships worth 10% of fees over the two years of Sixth Form study are offered to internal and external candidates who sit the Sixth Form Entrance and Scholarship Examination in November before the year of proposed entry. Scholarships are also available in Art, Sport, Drama and STEM (one in each).
Music Scholarships: Scholarships are available at 11+ and 16+. including free tuition on one instrument. Candidates must satisfy academic requirements in entrance papers before being invited to a music audition. Full details are available from the school.
