Micklefield is more than just a school; it is a family, built upon the core values of kindness, respect, resilience, and responsibility. These values foster a warm and caring atmosphere, allowing every child to feel supported and inspired to reach their full potential. Each child is treated as an individual and celebrated for who they are. As children progress through the school, they benefit from a rich curriculum delivered by specialist teachers. This breadth of opportunity allows children not only to discover their interests and build essential skills but it also prepares them for the journey toward the ‘right fit’ senior school, where they can continue to thrive.
Inspirational and imaginative teaching, alongside small class sizes, ensures excellent academic outcomes across the school. Alongside this, innovation and investment in IT helps to equip the children with all the digital skills they need to succeed in later life.
We recognise that it is in the formative junior school years that children shape the values, attitudes and social behaviours that underpin a happy and fulfilled childhood. Our 'More to Micklefield' programme helps the children grow into responsible, compassionate and resilient individuals by drawing together elements that help them build positive relationships, make good decisions, face challenges with confidence and have a sense of responsibility for themselves and those around them. Global citizenship, an active school council and a focus on sustainability help the children reach beyond school into the wider world and to recognise that they have the power to be changemakers of the future.
An active music and drama department nurtures the children's musical potential and helps them to develop confidence and expand their communication skills. There are regular opportunities to perform in everything from short plays for class assemblies to singing at the 02 arena with choirs from all over the country. A thriving LAMDA programme is extremely popular, and results are always outstanding. Games and PE are important parts of school life with the overarching aim being to help every child lead a well rounded and active lifestyle. Specialist teachers provide excellent sports coaching and weekly fixtures foster camaraderie and school spirit.
In Years 5 and 6, there is a comprehensive support programme which provides children with the necessary skills to confidently take part in the senior school application process. We are part of the Reigate Grammar School (RGS) family and this means that Micklefield children can move on to RGS without the need to sit an entrance exam if RGS is the school of choice. We also have excellent relationships with other top local senior schools and a well developed 11+ programme to support children with their transition.
