Set within one of the most beautiful and expansive school estates in the UK, Orwell Park School occupies a magnificent Georgian mansion overlooking the River Orwell, surrounded by 110 acres of stunning Suffolk parkland. The school’s purpose-built Nursery and Pre-Prep building complements this historic setting, offering modern learning environments alongside an engaging Forest School programme that encourages exploration, creativity and a love of the outdoors.
Orwell Park provides an exceptional all-round education for children aged 2–13, combining academic ambition with outstanding pastoral care. As a proud member of the Benenden Family of Schools, Orwell Park benefits from collaboration and shared expertise across a network of leading independent schools while retaining its unique character and commitment to individualised education. The curriculum is broad, challenging and flexible, with setting in core subjects, enrichment opportunities including Thinking Skills and public speaking, and dedicated pathways for scholarship candidates. The school has an excellent record of preparing pupils for entry to leading senior schools, with many pupils securing scholarships each year.
Learning extends far beyond the classroom through an exceptional co-curricular programme offering over 50 activities. Music is a particular strength, with over 90% of pupils learning an instrument and numerous ensembles, orchestras and performance opportunities available. Drama flourishes through regular productions, LAMDA tuition and public speaking competitions, while Art, Design Technology and STEM benefit from specialist teaching and facilities.
Boarding remains a distinctive feature of Orwell Park, nurturing independence, confidence and lifelong friendships within a warm and supportive environment. Pupils enjoy access to recently refurbished dormitories alongside extensive recreational and pastoral facilities.
The school’s outstanding facilities include a library, observatory, Design centre, Music technology suite, recording studio, Art studio with pottery and kiln facilities, Science laboratories, heated swimming pool, sports hall, climbing wall, squash courts, tennis courts, golf course and extensive playing fields. The 110-acre site provides unparalleled opportunities for outdoor education, adventure and sport.
Sport is a central part of school life, with excellent coaching and competitive opportunities in rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, tennis, athletics, sailing, swimming, squash and cross-country. Pupils can also participate in a wide range of activities including canoeing, fencing, gymnastics, dance, riding and clay pigeon shooting.
Underpinned by the values of Integrity, Kindness, Collaboration, Courage, Spirit and Respect, Orwell Park seeks to develop confident, capable and compassionate young people, ensuring every child is known, challenged and encouraged to thrive.
