Set on eight leafy acres beside Epping Forest, St. Aubyn’s enjoys the best of both worlds – the tranquillity of green space and the convenience of being minutes from the North Circular and M11. For over 140 years, the School has balanced tradition with innovation, guided by its motto: Bravely, Faithfully, Happily.
St. Aubyn’s is a non-selective preparatory school where pupils flourish academically, socially and personally within a supportive community. The School’s most recent ISI inspection (May 2025) affirms the school’s commitment to academic excellence, personal development and nurturing community. Additionally, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) was awarded a rare distinction, a significant strength, highlighting and recognising the outstanding start children receive from the ‘precision’ of teaching and the ‘rapid, sustained progress’ made by children.
Curiosity, creativity and confidence are encouraged through a broad curriculum and specialist teaching. French, Music and PE are taught from Nursery, with additional specialist subjects, including Science, Computing, Art, Drama, and Dance, introduced as pupils move through the School. Small class sizes and dedicated teachers ensure that every child is supported to achieve their full potential.
The School’s extensive facilities include three all-weather pitches, a large sports field and outdoor learning areas that inspire exploration and environmental awareness. Sport is central to school life, with opportunities for all to take part in football, hockey, cricket, netball, rugby, athletics and swimming. Music and the performing arts also thrive, with a busy programme of choirs, instrumental groups and dramatic performances both within and beyond the School.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through a vibrant programme of trips, visiting speakers, and over 40 weekly co-curricular activities. Clubs range from coding, cooking, chess and mindfulness to cadets, sewing, craft and mathletics, nurturing learning curiosity, passions for hobbies, while building character in equal measure.
Faithful to its founding principles, the School places strong emphasis on citizenship, wellbeing and community engagement. Pupils participate in charitable initiatives and environmental projects, instilling life-long principles of kindness, respect and shared responsibility.
At age 11, pupils move on confidently to selective independent and state schools, often securing scholarships and awards – 40 were achieved in 2025 across Academics, Music, Drama, Art and Sport.
All income from fees is reinvested directly into the School, ensuring that every child benefits. Means-tested assisted places are available from Year 3 (7+), broadening access to the St. Aubyn’s experience.
