Since its foundation in 1927, St Christopher’s School has expanded to become a highly successful academic preparatory school, located in the middle of Brighton & Hove, England’s youngest and most vibrant city.
St Christopher’s School aims to provide a traditional academic education within a supportive family environment where individual talents are developed to produce confident, articulate and well-balanced children. Pupils regularly obtain top academic scholarships and awards for art, music, drama and sport. St Christopher’s is a Brighton College school and many of its pupils go on to Brighton College.
Entry to the School is at 4+, however, places are occasionally available in other age groups. In the Pre-Prep, pupils are taught mainly by their form teachers. Particular emphasis is placed upon reading, writing and mathematics, but the curriculum is broad and a wide range of subjects is taught by specialist teachers, including French, Latin, Science, Music, Art, ICT, PE and Games.
Pupils move into the Middle School in Year 4, where the curriculum reflects the syllabuses of the Common Entrance and Brighton College Academic Scholarship Examinations. Formal homework is introduced at this stage. In the Upper School (Years 7 and 8), all subjects are taught by specialists, who make full use of the interactive ICT suite, music technology suite, science laboratory, art studio and library. A variety of educational day trips, an annual residential visit to France and sports trips ensure that children receive a broad and stimulating educational experience.
The children achieve an enviable record of success in football, rugby, cricket, hockey, netball and rounders. The musical life of St Christopher’s is enriched by three choirs and the choice of a wide variety of instrumental and vocal tuition. All pupils are encouraged to perform on stage as part of a wide programme of drama and the development of confidence is a central aim of the school. A wide range of extracurricular activities is on offer. After-school care is available until 5.30 pm each evening.
The Head is always delighted to welcome prospective parents. Please contact the Registrar to arrange a visit.
