Curriculum. A healthy variety of subjects including traditional core studies reflecting both the Scottish and English Curriculums (English, Maths, Science, Computer Studies, French, Geography, History, Classics, Latin, Spanish, RE, Art, Music, Drama and PE). The School’s intention is to provide a genuinely nourishing environment allowing for the development of the whole child.
Entry requirements. Application by letter or telephone, followed by a visit to the school, if possible, and a tour guided by senior pupils. All pupils can be offered an ‘In-day’ to help with placement.
Examinations offered. Common Entrance to Scholarship for independent senior schools in Scotland and England.
Academic, sports, games and leisure facilities. Classroom computers, Science Laboratory, a big open Art Room and a newly created STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths). A Theatre-Arts and Assembly Hall for concerts and drama. Spacious games pitches supporting a strong tradition in rugby, cricket, hockey, netball and rounders. There is a cross-curricular Study Support Programme for talented and gifted children, as well as for children with Specific Learning Difficulties.
Religious activities. There is morning assembly with hymn-singing and readings, stressing pupil participation and contribution through drama and music.
Charitable status. St Mary’s School, Melrose is a Registered Charity, number SC009352. Its aim is to provide education for primary school children.
