Seaton House School was founded in 1930 by Miss Violet Henry and continues to have a strong family feel to this day. The school provides all children with an excellent start to their learning journey and girls consistently gain both academic and scholarship success at both grammar and local independent schools. In 2023, 93% of our Year 6 girls who sat the 11+ were offered a grammar school place.
Seaton House has consistently ranked in the top 5 Prep Schools in the Sunday Times list and is currently placed as number 2.
Small class sizes ensure that every pupil is known as an individual and supported to ensure that they make the most of their gifts and talents. Alongside excellent academic teaching, the girls have opportunities to develop artistic, musical, dramatic and sporting talents. There are specialist teachers for almost all subjects to ensure that the girls receive the very best education in every area of the curriculum. The girls also compete in a range of events including ISA music and sports competitions, musical concerts, full-scale drama productions and regular sports fixtures with local schools. We have a wide range of lunchtime and after-school clubs which include gymnastics, chess, coding, ballet, taekwondo and art.
Educational visits are an integral part of the School’s curriculum as first-hand experiences are so important to both inspire and give context to the girls’ learning. Alongside regular workshops and termly external day visits, the girls in Key Stage Two also have the opportunity to engage in an annual residential course. These are carefully planned and provide a wealth of outdoor learning and adventurous activities to aid the development of leadership skills, teamwork and resilience.
Pastoral care is of the highest quality, with all staff taking a keen interest in the personal development of all the pupils. The school has recently achieved the Wellbeing Award for Schools. Where required, fully trained emotional support assistants support the girls on a daily basis. Courtesy, good manners and kindness are expected as the norm and pupils are encouraged to develop initiative, independence and confidence. The School has a strong house system and the pupils are encouraged to engage in community and fundraising events.
By the end of Year Six, every girl will leave us as a confident, curious, creative individual who is fully prepared for the next step in her education and has made lasting memories and friendships. Please do come and see what makes Seaton House such a special place – you will always be assured of a warm welcome.
