The values of our School community and the happiness of our children are central to everything we do. These provide pupils with a strong feeling of structure and security which enables them to work effectively.
At whichever point children join us they embark on their own journeys, each one different and each one with differing emphasis on the four areas we hold dear: Academic, Enrichment, Community and Leadership and Service.
By the time they leave us at the age of 11, it is our responsibility to have equipped the children during their formative years with the essentials of character to thrive in an increasingly competitive world. To put firmly in place the qualities which will make them clear thinking, lateral thinking, robust, hardworking, determined and yet kindly citizens, who will go on to influence many people in the coming years.
We have high expectations of ourselves and of our children, both inside and out of the classroom, and we have a long history of successful preparation of children for the next stage of their education, be that for our Senior School, the Kent grammars, or other schools.
None of this should come at the expense of childhood and what the School does so successfully is find that balance between delivering in terms of education, and yet doing so kindly and with many broad, interesting and high-quality opportunities. The School is very proud of its articulate and confident pupils who move on well-equipped to work things out for themselves, so crucial in an increasingly challenging world.
To achieve this we have dedicated Art, Science and ICT facilities and a Library. Classes are small throughout the school. The 40 teaching staff are all well qualified and there is an extensive peripatetic staff for music. Special needs are addressed by the SENCO and three part-time teachers. The Kindergarten to Year 2 classes all have qualified classroom assistants.
The School is situated in 18 acres of countryside overlooking the Weald and includes a hard and grass play areas, heated outdoor swimming pool, four hard tennis courts, a Sports Hall, a 13-acre games field, a full-size Astroturf and a newly established 'forest school' area, all of which support our co-curricular programme.
A solid foundation in the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and ICT is supplemented by Languages, Music, Drama, Art, Design Technology and Sport which are all taught by specialist teaching staff. The co-curricular programme is wide and varied providing many opportunities for children to perform in drama productions and in concerts, occasionally in conjunction with the senior school. Children are prepared for our senior school, Sutton Valence, the local Grammar schools and other independent schools with an 11+ entry.
Cricket, football, hockey, netball, rugby and rounders are the major sports, with athletics, swimming and cross-country also being available. The proximity of the senior school, Sutton Valence, allows the children to benefit from their staffing and facilities, including the use of the Sports Hall, athletics track and the indoor swimming pool. After-school activities include chess club, art, 5-a-side football, gymnastics, drama, craft, croquet, science club, ballet and judo.
The school is a Christian foundation. Assemblies, for celebration, and the use of the local church are an important facet of our lives, with the school’s Chaplain visiting regularly. The school provides a fulfilling education for all its children, a thriving network for its parents and a happy workplace for all who dedicate their lives to it.
Charitable status. The United Westminster and Grey Coat Foundation is a Registered Charity, number 1181012. It exists to provide education for boys and girls and provides valuable resources and support.
