Thorpe Hall School is a co-educational independent day school, comprising a Nursery, Prep and Senior School. The school is pleasantly situated on green belt land on the outskirts of Southend-on-Sea, Essex. The buildings are modern and purpose built and provide extensive facilities for all children to use, from age 2 - 16.
Connections to London are good via the A13 and A127 and the Liverpool/Fenchurch Street railway lines. The nearest station is approximately 10 minutes’ walk.
Founded in 1925, the school has been educating children for 100 years and consistently achieves excellent academic results with special emphasis being placed on the traditional values of good manners, behaviour, dress and speech.
The school has won many awards for its excellence and innovation across a number of different aspects. Best Senior School – ISA 2017; Best Early Years – ISA 2017, Best Pupil Wellbeing – ISA 2019. Top 100 Prep School in the Sunday Times every year since 2015. Nominated by the TES for Wellbeing initiative of the Year 2019 and 2020.
The school runs Forest School sessions and Beach School sessions in the Early Years along with French, yoga and dance. In the Prep school, pupils work ahead of the National Curriculum, and enjoy specialist teaching in many subjects. There is a selective stream for the most academically able, providing additional challenge and support and a grammar school pathway.
In the Senior School, GCSE results are consistently good and outstrip national norms every year. Around 80% of leavers go to university 2 years after leaving. The recently introduced Grammar Plus programme is a selective stream, providing a grammar style education but with all the benefits of a co-ed independent education.
The Charitable Trust status enables fees, which are very competitive, to be kept competitive. Nursery vouchers are accepted and some scholarships are available. The School is regularly inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.
Charitable status. Thorpe Hall School Trust is a Registered Charity, number 298155. It exists to provide good-quality education for boys and girls in South East Essex.
