Tudor Hall is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11–18 years. The school was originally founded in 1850 and moved to Wykham Park in 1946. It is situated in spacious parkland 1½ miles from Banbury Station and within easy access of London, Oxford, Bicester and Stratford-upon-Avon – M40, Junction 11.
The school accommodates approximately 250 boarders and 75 day girls. Its buildings comprise a 17th century and an 18th century manor combined with modern purpose-built houses and extensive new facilities which include 5 science laboratories; designated modern languages department with a language laboratory; purpose-built drama studio, music school and sports complex; art studio and design technology workshop. The Teaching Centre, opened in 2020, provides designated English and Mathematics Departments, ceramics and textiles studios and a professional teaching kitchen. Sports facilities include floodlit tennis and netball courts, gym and AstroTurf hockey pitch, a swimming pool, grass athletics track and pitches for lacrosse, rounders and cricket.
The curriculum and co-curriculum at Tudor Hall are extensive, providing students with intellectual challenge and opportunities to expand their horizons. Tudor girls are encouraged to take risks, develop a growth mindset and to aim high. Tudor Hall is a High Performance Learning pathway school, the only one in Oxfordshire and one of fewer than 15 independent schools in the UK working towards the prestigious World Class School accreditation based on cognitive and neuroscience research. More than 200 activity and co-curricular sessions are run every week. A comprehensive careers programme and opportunities for gaining experience (including the opportunity to learn barista skills, lifeguarding or Leiths professional cookery qualifications) - starting in Todds (Year 7) - ensures that Tudor girls are very well prepared for success beyond school.
Admission is by interview and internal examinations at both 11+ and at 13+. Entry may also be made to the Sixth Form at 16+ . Sixth Form entry is by assessment, interview and predicted grades at GCSE. Boarders joining at age 11 live in a separate and smaller house of Todds and IIs (Year 7 and 8) within a family environment to help them become accustomed to being away from home. All pupils are divided into four competitive, vertical Houses, but each boarding house, from IIIs upward (Year 9), is by age group.
Tudor Hall is proud of its ‘can do’ spirit, friendly atmosphere, and high standards. Girls are expected to take an interest in a wide range of activities as well as following a broad educational programme. Involvement in the local community thrives through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and local charities, as well as strong ties with and regular volunteering trips to support international charities in India and South Africa.Participation in events and social occasions with other schools are frequent. Debating and public speaking are strong, with keen involvement in Tudor Enterprise and Model United Nations. Every Sixth Former experiences elements of the unique T6 Sixth Form framework, across pastoral, wellbeing, co-curricular and careers programmes. The OT alumnae network and Oxbridge (and other competitive universities) preparation is particularly strong. An Anglican school that welcomes girls of all faiths and none, there is a Chaplain and small chapel.
