Our School. Founded in 1833 and set in a stunning coastal location on the Isle of Man, King William’s College is a co-ed independent boarding school for ages 11-18. We are committed to nurturing individual potential and fostering a lifelong love for learning, preparing our students for success beyond College. Our school is vibrant, friendly and fun, and whether you are from the Island or from further afield, you will bond with this special place. We embrace students from around the world, offering a welcoming boarding environment, and we are easily accessible through air links from major UK and Irish airports.
Kindness, Wellbeing, Challenge. What we value above all is being a strong, friendly community. All our students develop a love of learning and fulfil their academic potential, becoming confident, articulate and responsible young people, who will serve with creativity, insight and tolerance in their communities. With a mix of local and international boarders, students are given the freedom to become more independent both socially and academically. Fostering friendships which will last a lifetime, our borders have unrivalled access to College facilities, members of staff and can take advantage of the busy weekly and weekend activity programmes.
A Focus on Academic Excellence. Academic excellence lies at the heart of King William’s College. A highly qualified and enthusiastic staff ensure that all students are inspired and given the individual support they need to achieve success. We excel as one of the longest-standing International Baccalaureate schools in the British Isles, providing a rigorous curriculum that prioritises critical thinking and global citizenship. Our Sixth Form students pursue the International Baccalaureate Diploma, preparing them for a diverse range of future opportunities after College. Our students consistently secure placements in top universities across the UK, Europe, and the USA.
Enriching Activities. We provide an education which offers a wide range of opportunities outside the classroom. We offer a diverse range of extracurricular activities including competitive sport, golf, paddle boarding, horse riding, sailing and more to enrich the student experience. Thriving in Drama and Music, our students often showcase their talents at events and productions. At King William’s College, students can discover their passions and develop a broad range of attributes: natural curiosity, knowledge, critical thinking skills, the ability to express themselves confidently and creatively, integrity, honesty and open-mindedness.
Scholarships and Bursaries. Bursary requests are considered on a confidential case-by-case basis and are normally limited to tuition fees. Applications are means-tested and reviewed annually and focus on the financial position, as well as other circumstances of the family. We have finite and limited resources so we want to concentrate support towards those in most need.
Our Scholarships & Awards are available in Year 7 and are honorary. Means-tested financial assistance is available.
Charitable status. King William’s College is a Manx Registered Charity, number 615 and is operated as a Company limited by guarantee.
