Kings Monkton School is a co-educational day school in the heart of Cardiff for pupils aged 3 to 18. Family owned, by Paul and Karen Norton, the school takes a different approach to learning and teaching. They believe that with the right support and in the right environment, all children can succeed and achieve their life dreams. Their recipe is simple: inclusivity, achievement for all, and choice.
Kings Monkton School is inclusive and warmly welcomes pupils of all abilities; they do not have entrance exams, they embrace diversity and celebrate differences, and they work with their families to create bespoke learning pathways for every pupil. They also listen, and their exceptional wellbeing and pastoral teams provide support to enhance the learning experience – Kings Monkton School is a place for all.
The school motto is ‘Be the best you can be’, and they believe that achievement means achievement for all. It is not the starting point for pupils that is important, but their academic journey. Many achieve several grades higher than predicted and leave the school as well-rounded, resilient life-long learners, which is accomplished by small classes, great teaching and inspirational staff. Kings Monkton School wants your child to aspire, believe and achieve and they will guide their path.
But choosing the right path can be difficult, so the school offers choice. Their personalised curriculum offers over 33 different options at GCSE and post-16, and an array of assessments from A levels, GCSEs, BTEC and diplomas, while their bespoke Baccalaureate encourages pupils to go beyond the classroom and develop their own interests and passions, to be explored through their extensive range of extracurricular activities. The school also believes that with the New Curriculum for Wales, the need remains for some pupils to master specific subject knowledge, so they continue to offer options in science, maths and English.
The school has excellent public transport links and offers a school transport service. To support families, placement fees for this academic year have been frozen, primary pupils have free lunches, there are no exam fees or charges for curricular trips. The school also offers bursaries and scholarships.
