Stover Preparatory School enjoys a beautiful rural setting on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, close to the South Devon coast. Set in 64 acres there is ample space for pupils of all ages to experience the great outdoors, be that through play, nature walks, sport, orienteering, learning in our outdoor classroom or researching the history of our historic buildings. Stover Preparatory School shares its beautiful site with Stover Senior School, making transfer at aged eleven years a smooth process for our pupils.
We pride ourselves on our warm, welcoming atmosphere where each individual is nurtured and encouraged to reach their full potential. Visitors frequently comment on the positive, happy feeling they experience upon entering the school. Teachers are aware of pupils’ individual needs and provide challenge and support in an approachable and friendly manner. Our values underpin everything we do and we enable the children to be caring, supportive, thoughtful, brave, respectful, honest, inclusive and kind through our rewards system, assemblies, PHSE and environment.
We offer a broad, balanced curriculum with high academic standards, complemented by a wide range of extra-curricular activities. The school journey from EYFS -Year 6 is complimented by an internationally-minded and globally-focussed thematic curriculum with the Early Years International Curriculum giving way to the International Primary Curriculum in Year 1. The aim of the curriculum is to ensure children acquire not just knowledge, but skills and understanding, as well as developing their personal goals such as resilience, communication, empathy, public speaking and research. Within modern foreign languages - Spanish begins in Reception, French is introduced at Year 3 and German introduced in Year 5. PE, Drama and Music are taught by specialist teachers across the school and Art, Food and Nutrition and Music Technology being taught by specialists in Year 6. All other subjects are taught by the class teacher to enable cross-curricular links to thrive. Underpinning everything we do is our firm belief in Inquiry Based Experiential Learning, where pupils develop their inquiry skills, taking ownership of their learning from a young age.
Sport and the Performing Arts play a vital role in each child’s development. We have a full fixture list for our U9 and U11 teams as well as involvement with the local Schools’ Sports Partnership. Our regular school performances and concerts are a highlight of the calendar. Many of our Prep School pupils choose to participate in the Prep School Choir, known as Stover Singers who perform at all of our major events. Residential and day trips into our beautiful local environment further complement the curriculum, with full residentials starting in Year 3.
Facilities include an extensive Outdoor Classroom, Sports Fields, Tennis Courts, Art room, Music room, Multi-Purpose Hall, Forest School and Library.
Flexi, weekly and full boarding are available from the age of 10 years. Scholarships are offered at 11+. The majority of our pupils move on to Stover Senior School.
