Stover School is a leading independent, co-educational, non-selective, day and boarding school for pupils aged 3 to 18. It is set in 64 acres of beautiful and historical grounds in the heart of Devon’s glorious countryside between the foothills of Dartmoor and the South-West Coastline.
Stover School provides an education which nurtures, celebrates, challenges and inspires each pupil while retaining a healthy focus on traditional Christian morals, values and manners. Happy children are at the very centre of the school’s ethos, reflecting the robust system of pastoral care. Children who feel safe, valued, respected and who trust those around them are free to focus on learning to their maximum potential.
Pupils are encouraged, motivated and supported in achieving their aspirations in all areas of the academic and broader curriculum. The extensive activity and enrichment programmes ensure that everyone can enjoy, develop and challenge themselves. In this relatively small school every pupil is well known. The strong House system provides a framework for pupils to develop a sense of collectiveness within the supportive environment. Pupils learn respect for themselves and others through the teaching of moral values and good standards of behaviour.
The aim is to ensure that every child enjoys their experience at Stover School, having achieved the best they are capable of in the broadest education sense and having equipped themselves with the qualifications and skills required for future success and fulfilment.
Examinations. Public examinations set by all examination boards include GCSE, BTEC and A level. Music examinations are set by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Speech and Drama examinations are set by LAMDA.
Physical Education. Hockey, rugby, netball, football and cricket are the core team games. Individual sports include athletics, gymnastics, golf, tennis, badminton and cross-country.
The school has extensive grass pitches, six tennis courts (3 floodlit and one cover all-weather), a 9-hole golf course, cross-country tracks, clay pigeon and rifle range and cricket nets. We run a full range of school sports activities, clubs and fixture lists for both Senior and Prep. A new state-of-the-art sports hall is shortly to start construction.
Optional subjects. In addition to a wide variety of activities organised by Stover’s own staff there are specialist peripatetic staff for instrumental and voice tuition, speech and drama, riding, dancing, golf, clay pigeon and rifle shooting as well as tennis coaching.
