At Brontë House we welcome children into Ashdown Lodge, our Early Years setting, from the age of two years old. In Nursery and Pre-School, there are two types of child care options to meet the different requirements of our families: term-time only and 51-week contracts.
The School is situated in its own grounds, a short distance from the Senior School, close to both Leeds and Bradford and with easy access to Leeds/Bradford Airport and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Our hard work has been recognised by the latest Independent Schools Inspectorate inspection. The inspectors came away with very clear evidence of the values that we seek to promote. They recognised our outstanding academic and co-curricular programme and our aim to ensure that all our pupils reach their full potential.
During their time in Foundation Stage, we aim to develop a child’s ability and self-confidence, encouraging good behaviour and consideration for others. Children are provided with a stimulating programme of learning and play within a calm and relaxed atmosphere, providing a framework for every individual to fulfil their potential ready for the next stage of their education.
The EYFS curriculum is followed, beginning in Nursery and lasting for two years. Language and literacy, mathematics, knowledge and understanding of the world, physical and creative development are promoted in preparation for the transfer to Reception.
By encouraging a child’s intellectual, creative, sporting and personal development, we aim to get the best from our children in the classroom, on the games field, in music, drama and all other activities. We maximise the use of our outdoor surroundings to promote learning. The broad academic curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including foreign languages, but with particular emphasis on ensuring a strong foundation in reading, writing, mathematics and science.
As children progress through the school they are encouraged to take increasing responsibility and to show consideration for others. Friendship, trust and courtesy are promoted so our children have a sound foundation as they move up to Woodhouse Grove at the end of Year Six.
We aim to encourage every pupil to develop their potential across both curricular and co-curricular areas by participating in a variety of activities. As they progress through the school, sport plays an increasingly significant role in the life of the children and there are plenty of opportunities for pupils to be involved in team games and individual sports, which encourage not only physical achievement, but also a healthy outlook for enjoying school life to the full.
As with sports, music and drama also play an important part of life at Brontë House. All children are encouraged to learn an instrument. The music curriculum is a mixture of traditional and modern with opportunities for composing and performing. There are many choirs and ensembles and the children are regularly offered the chance to take part in concerts and festivals. Housed in spacious rooms on the top floor of Brontë House, our children are given excellent opportunities to develop musically and creatively.
