Buckingham Preparatory School (BPS) is a small school which offers its pupils an extremely high level of academic education and pastoral care. An ISI inspection in May 2017 rated BPS as ‘Excellent’ and ‘Outstanding’ in each and every aspect of our offering in every part of the school.
Our teaching staff have been universally praised for their ‘constantly warm and encouraging guidance’ and pupil progress is put down to our teachers’ ‘highly effective use of clear explanations’ and ‘because all teachers focus strongly on improving individual pupils’ learning and achievement’.
With a maximum class size of 18 throughout the school, individual attention is guaranteed.
BPS pupils consistently achieve excellent academic results due to the inspirational teaching, commitment and professionalism of its highly qualified teaching staff. Each year, Year 6 pupils gain offers to the major Independent and Grammar schools in the area and beyond. In the majority of cases, this is to the boys’ first-choice schools, often with scholarships.
BPS also prides itself in its results in other areas of the curriculum; areas which are vital in building confidence and self-esteem. Achievement in sport, music and drama is excellent. The pupils regularly take part in local fixtures, often winning inter-school tournaments in cricket, unihoc, football, rugby swimming and cross country, and other sports. A thriving choir and school plays allow the pupils plentiful opportunities for performance. Speech & Drama classes (LAMDA) and individual instrumental tuition are also on offer.
The Expressive Arts Week, when pupils have the opportunity of participating in approximately 14 categories of events, is also a focal point of the academic year, allowing all boys from the very youngest to demonstrate their individual talents.
The School also believes in forging a strong Parent/Teacher partnership so that parents feel they have a vital role to play in the education of their child. A thriving Parent/Teacher Association also organises as many as three major fundraising events during the academic year which are always well supported and are highlights of the year.
At BPS we do not select pupils based simply on their current academic abilities, but on their desire to learn and achieve. We believe in potential. We believe that if your child wants to succeed, then we will enable him to do so.
