Joining Us. The main entry point is at Nursery. We welcome children the term after their third birthday. This ensures a smooth transition into Reception, where they will benefit from establishing routines, meeting teachers and feeling at home in their surroundings, which will lead to an easy start to formal school.
Please get in touch if you are interested in joining Churcher’s College from Reception or Year 3 (7+) as places are limited and in high demand.
Churcher’s College Junior School and Nursery is the perfect place to start your child’s learning journey.
We are a haven for learning and adventure with a ‘have a go’ philosophy and an overarching aim for each child to reach their personal best inside and outside the classroom. With a broad and rich curriculum, the children enjoy a range of subjects and fully seize the array of opportunities on offer. From the academic to the activities that feed the soul, the children love it here.
Set just off the South Downs in Liphook, Hampshire, your child can experience a real countryside childhood and then make a very smooth transition at eleven years old as she/he moves to the Senior School in Petersfield. We fully support each child at every step of the entrance process. Every child’s happiness is paramount to their achievement and we pride ourselves on our high-quality pastoral care, excellent teaching and learning, all within a warm, family atmosphere.
The Nursery. Nestled in the grounds of our Junior School, Churcher’s College Nursery is a warm and creative environment where children are encouraged to explore, question and discover. Every child is unique and we want to give each boy and girl every opportunity to grow and flourish in a safe and nurturing environment so that they become happy, self-confident and thoughtful children who respect each other and the wonderful natural space they are sharing.
Pastoral. Happy children make happy learners. We strive to create a secure and friendly place of learning in which our children feel valued and where they can grow personally, socially, spiritually and intellectually. Class teachers take responsibility for day-to-day pastoral care. Heads of School support pupils, parents and staff. Our close-knit community enables us to talk freely with parents and vice versa. We work hard to make sure pupils thrive here. The House system fosters great community spirit, allowing friendships to form between year groups.
Academic. Academic rigour is at the heart of our teaching.
Junior Curriculum: A broad and balanced curriculum, combining academic, creative and cultural elements, gives children a varied day and also develops a lifelong love of learning in preparation for Senior School and beyond.
Nursery and Reception: Pupils in the Nursery and Reception Class follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
Sport. We offer a broad range of sports to help develop fitness and skills, teamwork and a healthy attitude towards competition through PE and Games. There are many opportunities to represent the school in a variety of matches from Year 2 onwards. The pupils learn a great deal from these: etiquette, collaboration, organisation, sportsmanship. They enjoy the experiences immensely.
Music and Drama. The Arts play a significant role throughout school life at the Junior School.
Music is made accessible to all pupils, from the Nursery to Year 6 and whatever their abilities, whether being inspired for the first time or developing existing skills. With plenty of opportunities, including timetabled music lessons, teatime concerts, an orchestra, choirs, and a jazz band, the pupils’ confidence is positively built. From the harp to the trombone, individual music lessons are also available.
Drama plays a key part in helping our pupils to gain confidence and to develop their imagination and communication skills. There are many opportunities for children of all ages (including Nursery) to perform, with a host of drama showcases, year group productions, dance festivals and many extra-curricular clubs. Assemblies and workshops also provide more opportunities for pupils to unleash their dramatic flair and build every child’s confidence. In addition, children can attend small group LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) sessions and work towards an examination which gives them techniques to increase their memory and recall skills, speaking and listening as well as improving self-expression.
Adventure. Building confidence and self-esteem is important for all of our children. We do this by providing challenging and adventurous activities that include the opportunity to take risk in a controlled environment. This is achieved through our Outdoor Adventurous Activities Programme and embedding Learning Outside the Classroom throughout the curriculum. From onsite campfire events to residential trips off site, the children relish the opportunity to learn outside their comfort zone. Children remember these adventures and experiences fondly.
Clubs and After-school Activities. Pupils at Churcher’s are encouraged to be involved in a wide range of activities, to broaden their interests and try new things. There is a great deal of choice, with activities ranging from sports and drama to music and dance. We love giving our children every opportunity to discover something a bit different or try out a new activity, and we find they thoroughly enjoy doing so.
The Guild Award. Unique to Churcher's College Junior School and Nursery, the Guild Award is a DofE-style programme of challenges, which is very popular and available from Year 3. The award helps pupils to develop themselves through attaining new skills and abilities, think beyond themselves, develop a resilience to difficulty through new challenges and develop leadership skills.
Charitable status. Churcher’s College is Registered Charity, number 1173833, and a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee, registered in England and Wales, company number 10813349.
