Cranmore is part of the Effingham Schools Trust with two other schools: St Teresa’s and Manor House. The Effingham Schools Trust offers education to girls and boys aged 2 to 18. Cranmore is equidistant between Leatherhead and Guildford and is easily accessible from Cobham, Esher, Weybridge, Dorking and Woking with school transport available. Normal entry points are Nursery, Reception, Year 3 (7+), Year 7 (11+) and Year 9 (13+). Entry is non-selective in the early years and assessments are held for other year groups. There is a Scholarship programme for 11+ and 13+ entry offering Academic, Sport, Music, Art and Drama Scholarships. In the most recent Inspection in February 2022, the school was rated ‘Excellent’ for the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements, as well as the quality of their personal development. In addition to the overall judgment of ‘Excellent’, each of the eight sub-categories for these areas were graded as ‘Excellent’.
An ongoing programme of investment over several years has given the school many outstanding facilities based on the extensive 25-acre site. These include a purpose built Science and Technology Centre opened in 2023, providing four more science labs, an ICT suite, a modernised DT room and two classrooms . The dining room was also completely refitted for the academic year 2023–24. The sports facilities include: a sports hall, gymnasium, 25-metre swimming pool, 4 Astroturf tennis courts and hockey pitch, 5-a-side astro, 9-hole golf course, large playground with rubberised surface, 3 squash courts and athletic development centre, plus extensive playing fields.
All pupils across our Lower prep School (to Year 3) and beyond benefit from access to the tremendous resources. Pupils are taught by specialist subject teachers from Year 4. Cranmore’s academic standards are high and pupil development enables all pupils to fulfil their individual potential.
Sports teams compete in galas, tournaments at local and national level; Inter-School and Inter-House competitions allow all pupils to take part. All children have the opportunity to represent the school at one of the main sports: rugby, football, cricket, and hockey. Our swimming squads compete successfully at national level. There is also a long tradition of other sports including golf, tennis and rowing – with boats housed at a local rowing club on the Thames. Skiing is supported by weekly training at Sandown and onsite training using a ski simulator within school. There is a thriving extracurricular programme as well as trips to support curriculum learning and to develop team building and leadership skills.
The Drama, Speech and Music school offers every pupil the opportunity to learn an instrument, sing in one of our choirs and play in a wide variety of ensembles and orchestras.
Cranmore is a Catholic school, welcoming families from all religious backgrounds and none. Our Christian ethos is central to supporting every child’s development underpinned by our core values: Community, Faith, Character, Compassion and Intellect.
