ERS aims to provide an exciting and relevant educational experience for pupils who need that little bit more support from their school, while studying a mainstream curriculum.
It focuses especially on students who have found, or would find, it difficult to make progress and succeed within another school – perhaps because of an earlier, negative, educational experience or perhaps because of a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, a speech and language difficulty or an autistic spectrum condition. If your child has other educational difficulties the school may also be able to help with these.
Children come with a variety of learning styles and use is made of a wide range of teaching strategies in order to match these. The school provides additional levels of support both in the classroom and on an individual basis, varying to suit the need of the child. Throughout the school, children are taught in small classes to match their need for support, to the level of teaching and support staff provided. The team of therapists includes Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, Social Emotional Development and visiting physiotherapists. Our specialist teaching team provide individual lessons in literacy and numeracy.
The Sixth Form provides for students who continue to mature beyond the age of 16 and require an additional amount of support and time in order to enable them to transfer successfully into a further education establishment or employment. The school has developed both one- and two-year educational programmes within a high-quality, secure and supportive environment, in which students are able to continue to mature, develop and learn while studying for additional examinations including GCSE, BTEC, Foundation and ASDAN awards. Examination results enable pupils to enter colleges and sixth forms in both state and independent schools to continue their education before university entrance, if appropriate.
Every child at Egerton Rothesay is seen as a unique person and an individual student. The school aims to make an excellent contribution into the life of each one ensuring that they can be supported in the way that they personally need to maximise their individual learning potential.
The school wants more than just to deliver a curriculum and has a learning skills approach throughout the school – aiming to prepare students not just for school and exams but for life in today’s complex society and an ever-changing world of work.
A child can often be able and talented in one aspect of the curriculum, yet find it difficult to make good progress in another. Some students will need support for the duration of their time in school, while others may only need a short amount of support to address a specific problem or to build confidence.
All activities take place within an environment offering exceptional pastoral care and spiritual development that is driven and informed by the school’s Christian foundation and its Chaplaincy team.
Transport. Egerton Rothesay is also more than just a local school – students travel to the school from all directions, many using the comprehensive bus service that the school runs over a 35-mile radius.
If you think this may be the right type of school for your child you can obtain more information from the Registrar on 01442 877060 or visit the website at www.eger-roth.co.uk.
