Feltonfleet School was founded in 1903 and became an Educational Trust in 1967. The School is situated in 25 acres of scenic grounds within easy reach of London and the southern Home Counties. There are 56 full-time and 4 Gap Year members of the teaching staff. The School became fully co-educational in September 1994 and offers both weekly boarding (Monday to Thursday) and day education, as well as a flexible boarding option. There is a flourishing, purpose-built Pre-Preparatory Department with two-form entry.
Academics. Academic results are high and pupils routinely gain entry to their first choice senior school. The staff team are 100% committed to drawing out the best in each and every child and this really shines through in Feltonfleet’s results. In the Upper School, pupils follow the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate – a broad and rich curriculum which thoroughly prepares them for success in their senior schools and beyond. Academic rigour lies at its heart, with a focus on developing core skills of 'thinking and learning', 'reviewing and improving' and 'communicating'.
Ethos. Our ethos is values driven and our day-to-day living begins with identifying and understanding our four core values of honesty, responsibility, respect and kindness. These are our community’s fundamental beliefs and the principles we consider to be worthwhile and desirable. It is about teaching children to flourish emotionally, socially, spiritually and physically. This is essential in developing a child’s sense of wellbeing, nurturing their resilience, self-esteem, sense of respect for others and a sense of social responsibility. At Feltonfleet we encourage pupils to enjoy both their learning and their childhood by celebrating who they are as individuals and not just what they achieve.
Pastoral. Feltonfleet is a happy, safe and caring environment where a very high priority is given to pastoral care. So much so that there is a dedicated Deputy Head (Pastoral Care). The division into Pre-Prep, Lower, Middle and Upper Schools means that, at each stage of a child's learning journey, their needs are met so that they can continue to grow in self-confidence and independence. Class teachers and Form Tutors take a close interest in their pupils’ pastoral welfare. They are supported in their roles by the Year Leaders who are responsible for the welfare of children in each year group, and by the Deputy Head (Pastoral). Feltonfleet is an environment conducive to mindfulness and positive mental health. ‘Time To Think’ sessions are an explicit part of the curriculum and Form Tutor system throughout the school.
Entry. Children are admitted from the age of three into the two-form Nursery in the Pre-Prep Department. Places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis with priority given to siblings. Moving into the Main School at the age of seven, pupils are joined by more children to create three forms. For entry into the Main School, pupils are required to sit an entrance assessment and informal interview. Academic, Art, Music, Drama, DT, All-Rounder and Sports Scholarships are offered at 11+.
Facilities. A state-of-the-art, 400-seat Performing Arts Centre where dramatic productions, dance shows and music are performed by all year groups. Well-equipped Science, Art, DT and Digital Learning Departments and Library. ‘Calvi House’, for Pre-Prep pupils Nursery to Year 1, has its own hall, gardens and outdoor classrooms. ‘Year 2 House’ provides a dedicated space giving increased access to the extensive facilities and further specialist teaching available on the main campus. There are landscaped play areas throughout the school and a stunning tree house, pond and wildlife area with bird hide.
Sport. The Feltonfleet Sport aim is to ‘create better athletes… for life’. The Department prides itself on its ability to encompass both excellence and sport-for-all within a very busy prep school environment. All pupils receive high-quality teaching and coaching in a variety of sports and activities in a positive and safe learning environment. Facilities include a magnificent sports hall, sports fields, a 15m indoor swimming pool, a shooting range for air and .22 rifles, a large floodlit Astro pitch and a climbing wall.
Games played are rugby, football, hockey, netball, athletics and cricket.
Extracurricular activities. The School has an active policy of preparing children for the challenges of today’s world and an exceptional activities programme is offered to all pupils both during and after the school day. Pupils in the prep school are offered the opportunity to attend residential activity courses as well as subject-related overseas trips. In the final two years, pupils attend residential leadership courses. After Common Entrance examinations, Year 8 pupils take part in a varied programme of activities, lectures and trips in preparation for leaving Feltonfleet and moving on to their senior schools.
Charitable status. Feltonfleet School Trust Limited is a Registered Charity, number 312070.
