Herries has a delightful location alongside National Trust land and is close to Maidenhead and Marlow; all children make use of the neighbouring Quarry Woods. Small class sizes enable each child to receive individual attention and to flourish in a secure environment. The curriculum is broad and balanced and there is a wide range of extracurricular clubs after school as well as holiday clubs. After-school clubs include football, dance, coding, create/art, cookery, fencing, homework club (free of charge to Y3 and above), chess, cross-country, tennis and multi sports. Wraparound care is available to all pupils from 8.00 am until 5.30 pm Monday to Friday. Herries has a distinctive family atmosphere and many pupils progress on to local Grammar and Independent Secondary Schools of their choice.
Curriculum. The National Curriculum is covered and we teach beyond the levels expected of children in each age group. Class teachers deliver the core and foundation subjects in Key Stage 1 while there is subject specialist teaching in all subjects in KS2. Herries offer timetabled study skills as part of the fees from Y3 upwards.
Examinations. Children are assessed through a variety of GL standardised tests including CATs testing. Emphasis is placed on preparing pupils for their next school of choice and the timetable includes ‘Thinking Skills’ which helps pupils learn to cope with a variety of different tests and exams.
Facilities. Set in a beautiful building which was the house in which Kenneth Grahame wrote The Wind in the Willows, the nursery occupies a purpose-built and spacious suite of rooms. ICT, coding and many lessons are taught on the school Chromebooks, all homework is set through Google classrooms. Classrooms are equipped with interactive Smart Boards and there is an excellent library. Sport is played at the National Sports Centre, Bisham Abbey, only a few minutes away; swimming is at Wycombe Leisure Centre in their 50-metre pool; cricket at Cookham Dean Cricket Club; athletics events at a local Sports Centre. There are weekly fixtures against other schools from Y3 upwards. Herries is a warm, friendly school where happy children achieve great things.
