Scholarships
Scholarships at Homefield celebrate outstanding attainment and progress. These are granted annually, on the basis of internal assessments and a collective review from the entire academic team. Homefield offer 4 scholarships per year, one for each of their ‘Houses’, for a boy, in the Upper School who epitomises attainment and effort across the curriculum. The recipient is awarded a prize and their name is then placed on one of the historic Honours Boards.
Bursaries
Bursary awards are subject to repeat testing of parental means each year and may be varied upwards or downwards, depending on parental circumstances.
Awards are made on the basis of the parents’ ability to pay using the letter of application, application form and financial declaration to assess the need and the consequent level of financial support required. Homefield Prep is an academically selective independent day school for boys aged 3–13. Founded in 1870, it is one of the oldest prep schools in England and has been renowned for its academic success and family atmosphere for over 150 years. To mark the 150th anniversary, the school reflected on its mission and its vision for the coming decades and created a statement that captures what the school holds dear for its students and the community.
‘At Homefield, we aim to provide a safe and happy environment, with a real depth of specialist teaching, to enable academic success. We invest in an ambitious curriculum for all our boys. This goes beyond English, Mathematics and the Sciences. Quality and vitality also underpin the humanities, the arts and sport. This breadth and depth ensure a wider fulfilment of our boys’ individual potential, in “head, hand and heart”. We seek to develop deeper study skills and aptitudes toward learning, such as research and collaboration, in order to inspire independent thinkers, who work well with others and are eager for challenge. We aspire to be a truly cosmopolitan school with a rich diversity both reflecting and supporting our place as a charity within the wider community of London. We aim for a generous education of knowledge and skill, but also ethical character, so that our boys not only “do well”, but “do good”. With roots in the 19th century, our mission embraces the 21st century, where wellbeing and civic virtue are key to our school’s character and success.’
The school offers a safe and happy environment, with a real depth of specialist teaching, which ensures the fulfilment of the students’ individual potential. The school is truly cosmopolitan, with students coming from diverse backgrounds and nationalities, which is a real strength. A generous education is provided, aimed at building knowledge and increasing skills, as well as building resilience, perseverance and good character. At Homefield, we produce well-rounded students, who go on to some of the very best senior schools in the country, including KCS Wimbledon, Eton, Whitgift, Trinity and CoLF.
‘Pupils are mutually supportive, keen to succeed, and value the opportunities made available to them. Many lessons are characterised by challenge. Teachers have secure subject knowledge and lessons are mostly well planned. An extensive programme of extracurricular activities is in operation before school, at lunchtime, and after the school day, allowing pupils to discover and develop new interests and to hone their skills.' (ISI Inspection, November 2024)
From December 2019–June 2022, the school invested in a complete redevelopment of the school site to provide the highest-quality facilities for our students now and for future generations.
The redevelopment included a purpose-built block of new classrooms, constructed to a very high specification and overlooking the playing fields, and a brand-new Performance Hall, Dining Room and Kitchen. At the same time, the school created new music facilities, a STEAM/Computing suite, a Library Hub over two floors, a multi-use games area and adventure playgrounds.
Due to the redevelopments, the school has gained around 10% more green space. The school has also added to its eco-credentials through solar power, low energy underfloor heating and a ‘green roof’.
Awareness of others is encouraged and the boys are involved in many fundraising charity events. A wide range of opportunities are available to extend gifted boys, and learning support is available for children with special needs. Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing are embedded into the school curriculum, lunchtime clubs and after-school clubs.
Academic, sporting, art and music scholarships are offered as well as occasional bursaries.
Daily minibuses serve Carshalton, Epsom, Wimbledon and Worcester Park areas to transport boys before and after school.
Breakfast, after-school and complimentary clubs are available, as well as wraparound care.
Charitable status. As a charitable trust since the 1960s, a keen sense of civic and community responsibility is important at Homefield. We believe that positive values influence character and attitude. In the 21st century it’s more important than ever for our boys to feel rooted within a strong moral community.
Homefield Preparatory School Trust Limited is a Registered Charity, number 312753.
