As confirmed by the ISI Inspectors in the Spring of 2022, the warm and friendly atmosphere that exists at Keble ensures that the pupils are well motivated, keen to learn and able to mature at their own pace. Strong pastoral care is regarded as a key element in the children's overall development and wellbeing, along with the encouragement of courteous and considerate behaviour.
The academic staff comprises 20 qualified graduate teachers, 8 classroom assistants and 2 Learning Support teachers. The buildings are well maintained and facilities are regularly updated. The school has an ambitious ICT development programme.
The average class size in the school is 16–20, although many classes are taught in half-groups and sets as the pupils progress through the school. Pupils follow the EYFS Curriculum in Pre-Prep. General subject teachers cover the academic curriculum in Years 1 to 4, with subject specialists following on from Year 5 onwards. The National Curriculum is used as a guide to curriculum development. Art, Music, PE, ICT, PSHE and Games are introduced at appropriate stages and are included within the timetable. Pupils are encouraged to learn a musical instrument, sing in the choir, perform in plays and concerts and play an active part in the wide range of sports on offer.
Football, rugby, netball, hockey and cricket are the major team games. Further opportunities exist to participate in swimming, basketball, athletics, cross country and tennis. There is a wide range of lunchtime and after-school activities and clubs, including drama, gardening, chess, eco and karate. There is also a forest school, numerous educational outings and four residential trips.
Pupils are not required to pass an assessment to gain entry into the school at Nursery or Reception. Pupils wishing to join the school at a later stage in Year 1 or above are assessed in order to ensure that they will fit comfortably into their new surroundings.
Pupils are prepared for entry to senior independent schools through Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations at 11+ and 13+. The school has a strong record of success in placing pupils in the senior school which is right for them.
