King’s College Junior School is a kind, inclusive and purposeful community, which blends an enriching and aspirational curriculum with first-rate pastoral care and an exceptional co-curricular programme. Established in 1912, the junior school is a fun and exciting launchpad into their learning journey at King’s Senior School. From 7-18, the education is one of Mind, Spirit and Heart, the enduring values of our foundation, which equip our young people with the very best preparation to create their futures in the world beyond school.
Around 300 boys who are bright, curious and interested in the world around them join at 7+, 8+ and 9+ and virtually all move into the senior school at 11+. Pupils benefit from outstanding and extensive facilities that are shared with the senior school for activities such as music, sport and art, as well as having their own purpose-built library, science laboratories, classrooms and play spaces.
Our youngest pupils (Years 3 and 4) are taught in Rushmere, a spacious Georgian house, that is a friendly and stimulating environment with its own separate dining hall, garden and playground. Pupils are inspired by knowledgeable and supportive class teachers, who teach a broad curriculum including Science, IT, Computing, Religious Studies and Philosophy, Technology, PSHE and Drama. They also benefit from specialist teachers for Art, Music, PE and Games.
In Years 5 and 6 pupils move into, or join, Priory, which is adjacent to Rushmere. Here they are taught by specialist teachers in every subject, moving between classrooms and specialist venues. In Year 5, pupils begin French and undertake a one-year course on the History of the English Language. In Year 6 they take up Latin and Design and Engineering.
King's College Junior School pupils enjoy a substantial range of opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom, all of which are underpinned by the core values of kindness, curiosity, inclusivity, patience, honesty and bravery. With annual drama productions, multiple musical ensembles, countless clubs (including chess, debating and gardening) and a multitude of sports, King’s pupils benefit from both breadth and depth, with widespread participation and innumerable platforms upon which to excel.
