The school, founded in 1947, is situated in a pleasant residential area on the edge of green belt land in South Hertfordshire, and yet is conveniently placed for access to London. At the heart of the school is a late Victorian house. Facilities on our 8½ acre site are extensive and include a separate Sports Hall, Gymnasium & Theatre, Music Centre, Forest School Area, two Science Laboratories and specialist IT, DT, and Art rooms. Lochinver is fully advanced with the teaching of and integration of Computing and Digital Learning, including the provision of iPads to older children.
Pupils are prepared for 11+ and 13+ entrance and scholarship examinations to a wide range of world-class day and boarding Independent Schools.
The school has its own extensive playing fields on site, including an all-weather Astroturf pitch. The major sports of football, rugby, cricket, athletics and basketball are complemented by opportunities to take part in a very wide range of further sports and physical activity. Optional residential trips take place both within the UK and overseas, such as a European Football and Classics trip, and a Rugby Tour to South Africa. During their time at the school, each child will spend some time in France as this is an important and much valued part of the French curriculum.
Music, Art, Drama, Design Technology, Food Technology, Forest School and PE are part of the timetabled curriculum for all pupils. The school encourages children to learn at least one musical instrument and currently 75% of the children are doing so. There is a school orchestra, junior and senior choirs, together with a variety of instrumental groups. Parents appreciate our provision of co-curricular activities and extended care at both ends of the day.
The school is a non-profit making Educational Trust administered by a Board of Governors.
