Nestled in the leafy suburb of New Barnet, Lyonsdown School is a small, welcoming school where girls flourish both academically and personally. With excellent transport links, including the North Circular, Northern Line, and mainline rail services, Lyonsdown offers accessibility alongside a peaceful learning environment.
As a proudly non-selective, one-form entry school, Lyonsdown welcomes girls into Pre-Reception at 3+, with additional places available in Reception at 4+. Our approach nurtures both potential and ability, enabling every pupil to thrive and achieve personal excellence.
By the time they reach Year 6, Lyonsdown girls are well prepared for entry into some of London's top senior schools, both independent (day and boarding) and selective maintained schools, with many securing scholarships.
A personalised approach to learning. With high teacher-to-pupil ratios, each class benefits from outstanding teaching and pastoral care. Our broad and balanced curriculum is enriched by specialist teaching in subjects such as Music, Drama, Science, Computing, and Art, allowing pupils to discover and develop their individual passions.
Recent achievements include recognition at the ISA Film & Animation competition and the National ISA Art Awards. The school boasts two lively choirs and offers individual instrumental lessons taught by visiting specialists.
Lyonsdown learning: skills for life. At the heart of our ethos is Lyonsdown Learning – a framework that equips pupils with the skills they need for senior school and lifelong learning. Girls are encouraged to think critically, work independently, and approach challenges with creativity and confidence.
Inspiring spaces and opportunities. Our beautiful Edwardian building is complemented by modern facilities, including a Science Laboratory, Library, Dining Room, Outdoor Learning Area, Art Studio, Computing Suite, and Music Room. Sport is a key part of school life, supported by a purpose-built hall and access to local facilities.
An extensive co-curricular programme runs throughout the year, offering clubs such as orchestra, football, chess, LAMDA, music technology, gymnastics, and karate. Pupils also enjoy visits from speakers, theatre groups, and hands-on workshops, as well as regular educational trips into London and an annual residential for Years 5 and 6.
Inclusive and supportive. Lyonsdown is an inclusive community, welcoming girls of all faiths and none. Specialist learning support is available for pupils with specific needs, such as dyslexia, or those requiring short-term assistance. More able pupils are challenged through extended learning and enrichment activities.
We value the strong partnership between home and school, maintaining open communication and celebrating the many achievements of our pupils. Lyonsdown is a member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA) and the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS). The school holds charitable status and became part of the Mill Hill Education Group (Registered Charity No. 1064758) on 1 April 2022.
