Boys are prepared for both grammar and senior independent schools and enjoy considerable success at 11+ and 13+, with many achieving scholarships (including music, sport, art, design technology and drama) to a wide range of first-class senior schools.
The School divides into Senior, Middle, Junior and Nursery sections in which boys are placed according to age and ability. Initiative is encouraged by organising the School into 4 houses or ‘companies’. The well-equipped main School building is complemented by several modern, purpose-built facilities: separate Pre-Prep and Junior School buildings for nursery girls and boys from rising 3, and for boys aged 4–9; a sports hall with modern changing facilities; a multipurpose, Astroturf sports pitch; a theatre; a heated indoor swimming pool; a centre for Art and Music; and modern facilities for Science and Technology. Football, rugby union and cricket are the major games. During the summer months tennis and athletics are available. Swimming and shooting are available all year round. A very extensive range of extracurricular activities is offered (including many interesting and exciting trips) together with a programme of pre- and after-school care. Music, sport, art and drama at the School are highly regarded.
The New Beacon merged with Tonbridge School in August 2021. While the two Governing Bodies work together to align in terms of overall strategy, each school retains its own site, leadership and management teams.
Following the merge in 2021, The New Beacon is overseen by the Skinners’ Company – a major not-for-profit organisation which supports seven other schools (including Tonbridge School).
