Newcastle Preparatory School is a fully co-educational day school for children aged 3 to 11 years. It is a warm, caring environment in which all pupils are encouraged to reach their full potential.
Children may join ‘First Steps’ at NPS from the age of 3 years. ‘First Steps’ is an exciting and colourful nursery with excellent resources and well-qualified staff who look after the needs of each individual.
At age 4, children make the easy step into School where they experience many ‘steps to success’.
The curriculum offered throughout school is broad and balanced so that children enjoy learning in a variety of ways. French is taught from age 4 with music and PE being taught by specialist teachers. As children progress through School, they become independent learners, following a varied timetable, and class sizes are small to provide individual attention.
Music is an important part of life at NPS. There is a choir and an orchestra.
Sporting achievements too are very good. There is a purpose-built Sports Hall and a wide range of sport is offered with extracurricular activities including rugby, football, cricket, hockey, netball, athletics, tennis and swimming.
Also there are many clubs and activities to enrich the curriculum, e.g. Drama, Dance, Chess, Philosophy, Art, ICT, Design, Food Technology, and there is an effective School Council as well as a Buddy System.
Outdoor learning is offered throughout the school including a dedicated Forest School area.
The variety of opportunities ensures that the children leave NPS well equipped for an easy transition to senior school. The academic results are very good and the children receive an all-round education, so that they are confident, eager learners.
