Established in 1875, Pinewood is a thriving traditional country prep school with modern values in which staff, parents and children work together to find and realise the potential in every child. Set in 84 acres of rolling countryside on the Wiltshire/Oxfordshire border, it offers a warm family-based environment where children are encouraged to think for themselves and given the space to let their personalities and talents shine. The children are encouraged to learn through their adventures and a strong emphasis is placed on self-discipline, manners, kindness, trust and selflessness.
Resources include a purpose-built Music School and Science Labs, a flourishing Pre-Prep and Nursery, Art and Design Workshops, Research and Reference Library, ICT Rooms and a state-of-the-art Sports Hall. Recent investment has included the newly created Hoyland building (a £2.5 million six-classroom teaching block) and £750,000 of funding for Astroturfs for children to enjoy hockey, netball, tennis and 5-a-side-football.
Excellent academic results are achieved through a mixture of traditional and forward-thinking teaching within a happy, friendly and stimulating learning atmosphere. Learning outside the classroom is key and trips are frequent and varied, as are residential trips. Great successes have been achieved in Music, Art and Drama. The Pinewood SKILLS programme is an exciting new addition to the school week and provides the opportunity for children to experience a wide range of sessions allowing them to gain new attributes and experiences with academic, pastoral and social benefits. Over 40 dynamic sessions are on offer from clay pigeon shooting, to mountain biking, mosaics and Young Engineers.
Sport is keenly coached and matches are played at all levels on the picturesque playing fields, which incorporate a nine-hole golf course. Families are encouraged to join the school community to support the matches on a Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning, following which they can enjoy Pinewood’s famous match tea in the drawing room.
Boarding is popular and fun, with a multitude of activities on offer every night from the infamous ‘Spotlight’ tag game in the grounds, to cooking, craft, neon discos, and ‘the floor is lava’ in the sports hall. Children feel very at home in the warm and cosy atmosphere created by the houseparents, relishing the opportunity to spend more time with their friends.
