Reigate St Mary’s (RSM) is a co-educational day school for children aged 2 to 11 years old. It is a junior school of Reigate Grammar School (RGS), the top co-educational day school in Surrey and typically, 80 percent of pupils transfer to RGS each year. RSM believes that a good education should be a challenging, inspirational and exciting journey, preparing children for happy and fulfilled future lives. The aim is to produce confident, resilient and creative young people who will one day become leaders who care deeply about a sustainable and equitable future for everyone.
This is achieved by a relentless focus on wellbeing, and by prioritising the building of strong relationships with the children and their families over everything else. From their earliest days, right through to their transition to senior school, each child is supported according to their individual needs and strengths. By doing this, the children know they are truly valued at school and this gives them the confidence to take challenges, learn from mistakes and ultimately reach their full potential. The school has been shortlisted for Independent School of the Year in the Wellbeing category in recognition of this.
The children enjoy busy days filled with imaginative teaching and exciting adventures focusing on teamwork, creativity, digital learning, and communication. Lessons are taken outside whenever possible and with 15 wonderful acres of grounds, there is plenty of space to roll down hills, explore dens and enjoy the school’s many nature areas and playgrounds.
The youngest children joining Early Years are in the safe hands of warm and caring teachers and teaching assistants. The team focus on making sure each child feels happy and secure as they know that ultimately, happy children learn. Days in Early Years are designed to harness natural curiosity and ensure the children become enthusiastic and happy learners, eager to come to school every day.
As they move up through the school, the children learn to be good citizens, with the confidence to make the right decisions and the skills to thrive in the workplace of tomorrow. The school is passionate about teaching the children to be independent and resilient thinkers, fully equipped to reach their individual potential, whatever form that takes. An Education for Social Responsibility (ESR) curriculum is central to this and helps children to think about the core values that will lead to worthwhile and content lives, within stable and caring communities while protecting the planet for the future.
There is significant and ongoing investment in technology throughout the school and IT is embedded in all teaching. Classrooms are exciting and inspiring places where children use technology to explore. There is an impressive IT Lab and Mac Suite and the school’s Lego robotics team have been UK finalists in the worldwide Lego robotics competitions many times.
