Royal High School Bath is a leading independent day and boarding school for girls aged 3–18. A pioneering girls’ school founded well over a century ago with a clear remit to enable girls to learn without limits – this is as true today as it was when the School first opened.
Situated on the edge of the beautiful city of Bath and within striking distance of the M4 corridor to Bristol and London airports, Royal High School Bath is a great choice for UK based, expats and international families. Day students attend from surrounding towns and cities including Bristol, Swindon, Chippenham, Warminster, Frome, Wells, Stroud and Tetbury.
As part of the GDST (Girls’ Day School Trust), the leading network of independent girls’ schools in the UK, Royal High School Bath has strong values – girls first, forward-thinking and fearless – providing an education which empowers girls to truly believe in themselves and value the contribution they will make on the world.
All of our lessons have been tailored to the way that girls learn. We have a long history of specialising in girls’ education and are proud of our reputation as a kind, supportive and academically excellent school.
Led by an outstanding Head, our exceptional team of staff provides the support required to empower girls to truly believe in themselves and value their contribution to the wider school community, and in time, the wider world. Through innovative and creative teaching, and by focusing on the individual student, we provide the springboard girls need to develop a fearlessness for life – students leave us, ready for the world’s challenges and equipped with skills for their future. We offer a broad range of subject options, ensuring our education is cutting-edge and forward-thinking. We also offer a wealth of super and extra-curricular opportunities and clubs for girls to challenge themselves beyond lessons.
Our staff are dedicated to supporting and inspiring each individual to aim high and achieve their very best. We achieve high grades, at both GCSE and A Level, with 40% of A Level students going on to study STEM subjects. The grades achieved by GDST students are 3.5% higher than the national average.
In the Sixth Form, students can choose either A Level or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme as their pathway to university. Students consistently achieve excellent grades and access to their first choice university in the UK and overseas. IB students regularly achieve well above the global average and, in 2024, achieved an average point score per student of 36 (higher than the global average).
As the only boarding school in the GDST group, Royal High School Bath offers homely and stylish modern living for girls in Years 7–11 and in the separate Sixth Form boarding house. Our boarding houses are home to girls from across the world – we are very proud to be multi-cultural. Our diversity means our students learn about different cultures and live in a thriving, international community before embarking on their journey into the adult world. Our evening and weekend activities enable girls to bond, share new experiences and, of course, have a lot of fun. We encourage boarding girls to try new experiences – particularly to step outside of their comfort zone in a safe, supportive environment.
Above all, we balance academic excellence with strong pastoral care for every student, from the very youngest child in our Nursery through to the impressive young women who are our Sixth Formers. We provide a nurturing environment where students are known and can flourish, becoming confident and stronger emotionally. Girls are supported to be the best they can be today and in their lives beyond school, equipped to take on life’s challenges as they leave a positive mark on the world. Here, our girls’ energy and determination, yet down to earth groundedness, makes for a very special school.
