St Gerard’s is a small independent day school with a happy, secure, family atmosphere in which pupils thrive. Since its foundation over a hundred years ago, the school has maintained a kind and caring ethos, while setting high standards of behaviour for all pupils.
From the earliest years, children learn to share with and care for one another, and older pupils work in an environment free from bullying, one that encourages resilience, compassion and trustworthiness. A wide range of co-curricular activities enriches learning beyond the classroom, including climbing club, radio club, and Dungeons and Dragons.
Through the hard work of staff and pupils, supported by our parents, we aim to develop analytical, critical and compassionate thinkers who are capable of achieving happiness and success in their lives. We achieve excellent results year after year and were ranked second in the UK for small independent schools. We are exceptionally proud of our school and all that is achieved here. The best advertisement for St Gerard’s is our pupils, and we warmly invite you to come and meet them and see the school in action.
During the spring term of 2025, we welcomed Estyn to the school. Our report was exemplary, and we were delighted to be recognised for creating ‘a calm, nurturing environment which enables pupils to thrive’. Purposeful collaboration within our school community was also highlighted: ‘St Gerard's is a happy, safe school where pupils, parents and staff share in a common purpose founded on inclusivity, ambition and high expectations.’ You can read the full report here: www.estyn.llyw.cymru/inspection-reports. Our Senior School provides a small, focused educational community where the potential of each pupil is central. Pupils, staff and parents work together to ensure optimum progress. The Senior School is located in the original convent building, with newer extensions housing purpose-built classrooms. Its proximity to the Junior School enables staff expertise to be shared and encourages positive interaction between pupils of all ages.
All teachers in the Senior School are subject specialists, and pupils move between classrooms according to curricular need. Each member of staff is linked to a form group, supporting both pupils’ academic progress and their personal wellbeing. Small class sizes allow for truly individualised attention; teachers know each pupil well, recognising strengths and identifying areas for development.
Our Sixth Form offers a tailored and supportive environment for pupils preparing for the next stage of their academic journey. A level teaching is delivered by dedicated subject specialists who provide expert guidance, personalised feedback and structured support to help pupils achieve their goals. Sixth Formers play an active role in the wider life of the school, embracing leadership opportunities and acting as role models for younger pupils. We are proud of the consistently strong A level results achieved by our Sixth Form cohort, which have enabled pupils to progress to a wide range of competitive university courses, apprenticeships and career pathways.
Arrangements can be made to visit the school throughout the year, and dates for our open events can be found on our social media pages.
