Scholarships for Years 7 & 8
Scholarships are available from Year 7. They provide three possible benefits to those pupils in receipt of them. Firstly, a scholarship is a public acknowledgement of a pupil’s outstanding ability or talent, so the scholarship generates recognition. Secondly, we work hard to ensure that scholarship holders receive, as part of their scholarship, educational experiences that extend and develop their talents. Holding a scholarship brings responsibilities to demonstrate positive attitudes, behaviour and commitment to pursuing excellence. Finally, a scholarship carries some fee remission which is not means-tested.
All scholars will receive appropriate support, encouragement and advice to make applications for awards and scholarships into senior schools.
Bursaries
St Michael’s Prep strives to enable boys and girls to benefit from the outstanding education that it provides. The governors of St Michael’s Prep School are committed to broadening access to the school by offering eligible parents/guardians means-tested financial support with the payment of school fees. Such support is known as a bursary and this may be awarded in the form of a discount on school fees, to those in Year 3 upwards, depending on the financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances of applicants.
Each pupil to whom support is offered must, in the opinion of the Head, be likely to make sound academic progress following admission and possess the potential to develop the quality of his or her work and benefit from participation in the wider, extra-curricular activities on offer at the school. Each applicant should also meet the St Michael’s Prep’s normal admissions requirements.

Joy is at the heart of life at St Michael’s: the joy of our children, the joy of our community and the Joy and Wonder of Learning. St Michael’s is driven by a passionate belief in the value and power of learning: for children, for teachers, for parents and everyone who comes into contact with us.
St Michael’s is an inclusive school where each individual is known, valued and celebrated. We want our children to embrace each day and be inspired by their lessons and co-curricular activities.
We believe in providing a rounded education where children can pursue their passions, challenge themselves and enjoy a creative and innovative curriculum. We are continually looking for ways to improve our curriculum and facilities, making them more vibrant, inspiring and in step with our ever-changing world. Access to our 100-acre site plays an important role in the pupils’ learning and growth, developing them into mindful and knowledgeable citizens who will care for their environments throughout their lives.
Our growth mindset approach to teaching and learning ensures that every child understands the value of failure in their path to success. St Michael’s children are not afraid to get things wrong, or judgmental of others’ mistakes, and this is something they carry with them.
Our school motto: perseverantia, sapientia, gratia (perseverance, wisdom and gratitude) encapsulates our ethos of striving for success and using our skills to make a difference. These values are instilled daily throughout the St Michael’s journey.
We strongly believe that in order to teach our children about the importance of lifelong learning, we must first model this ourselves. Our staff undergo regular professional development and parents are also invited to a range of workshops on relevant topics.
We are confident that when our pupils move on from St Michael’s, they will use the wisdom, skills and values that we taught them to make a positive change in the world.
