Set in 72 acres of delightful grounds which lead down to the River Cherwell and yet only a few miles from the city centre, Summer Fields is often known as Oxford’s Secret Garden.
The School, comprising of a Pre-prep and Prep, offers an exceptional education for boys aged 4–13.
The Pre-prep for day boys, opened in 2018, is state of the art and benefits from the use of all of the Prep facilities. It is the perfect start to learning and an excellent introduction to Summer Fields Prep, which has always had a strong academic reputation, with Summerfieldians regularly securing scholarships, awards and exhibitions to top independent schools, including Eton, Harrow, Radley and Winchester. Each year, boys pass Common Entrance to a wide variety of top public schools.
The facilities are outstanding. They include the refurbished chapel and the Mark Shvidler Library – a wonderful addition to the school’s infrastructure – custom-built pottery studio, Design and Technology and ICT centre, a magnificent Sports Hall, with squash and Eton fives courts, a shooting gallery and swimming pool, and the Salata Pavilion which includes purpose-built changing rooms for the boys and a large multi-functional space on the first floor.
Sport has a high profile and proud history at Summer Fields, with many children representing the school at local, county and national levels. Football, Rugby and Cricket are the major sports, but by no means the only ones. The school’s ethos supports sport for everyone, encouraging and enabling pupils to participate and develop skills in their sports of choice.
Huge emphasis is placed on providing the highest standards of pastoral care. Each boy has a personal tutor, who is responsible for his academic progress and social welfare, and will be in regular contact with the boy’s parents. Wraparound care is provided at the Pre-prep.
Prep boarders live in Lodges within the school grounds and are looked after by an experienced and dedicated husband and wife team of Lodgeparents. The modern award-winning boarding facilities offer a home from home for the boys. Around two-thirds of the staff live on site, making a significant contribution to school life both in and out of the classroom, ensuring evenings and weekends are packed full of activities for the boys to enjoy.
Pupils participate in a wide variety of music groups, choirs, orchestras and ensembles, with 80% taking music lessons. The Choir regularly sing Evensong in Oxford Colleges and tour abroad. LAMDA is offered, with many pupils achieving distinctions, and at least one Drama production takes place every term in Macmillan Theatre onsite.
Outside in the grounds, a beautiful tree house, Forest school and camping site enhance the outdoor learning provision throughout the school, but especially in the Pre-prep. There are also impressive outdoor sports facilities including AstroTurf, tennis courts and all-weather cricket nets, a nine-hole golf course, birdwatching hut, outdoor pool, and adventure playground. A huge range of sports, activities and hobbies is on offer to the boys.
Bursaries are available up to a value of 100%.
