Jersey College for Girls is a fee paying school located on the outskirts of St. Helier in Jersey (Channel Islands). The Jersey Ladies’ College, as the school was first called, opened on 20th September 1880. Its current facilities on Mont Millais were officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II in 2001.
We are an academic and compassionate girls' school currently catering for 761 students aged between 11 and 18, and we offer education up to and including A-levels. Our students have many opportunities to explore and enjoy life beyond our safe walls. In addition to traditional school pastimes, such as sport and drama, we have access to all the island has to offer, both on land and sea as well as offering some truly incredible programmes, such as piloting and finance.
Our College specialist facilities include science, drama, music, textiles, design technology and art. We have a well-equipped sports complex including an astro pitch, tennis and netball courts, a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a sport hall, a cardio vascular gym, a climbing wall and a dance studio.
Our students achieve highly, and their results are the best in the island. Last year 40.1% of students achieved A*/A at A level and 64.0% achieved 9-7 at GCSE.
Admission.
Year 7 Entry - Students are not invited to take an entrance examination. The decision for admission is based on the primary school's reference, including recently sat CATs data, and the student’s attitude to learning.
Years 8-11 Entry - Applicants are placed on a waiting list for testing. When a place becomes available, they will be contacted and invited to sit English and Maths entrance papers.
Sixth Form - Normally 5 grade 9-6 passes at GCSE, which must include English and Maths at Grade 5 or above, with a grade 6 in subjects (or related subjects) that students wish to study at A Level. Specific criteria is applied to certain subjects.
Jersey College Preparatory takes 44 girls and 28 boys in Reception each year. These children are organised into 3 classes of 24 in each class. JCP usually offers 5 additional places for girls from other primary schools to start at the beginning of Key Stage 2 every year. Places are gained through an assessment process, which will include information from the pupil's current school. Students are expected to be achieving age related expectation or above.
