The school offers some scholarships, exhibitions and bursary awards to a number of pupils each year.
Academic Scholarships
Awarded in recognition of academic excellence, the majority of awards are offered following the Entrance Assessment for 11+ and 13+ candidates, when pupils are automatically considered (no separate application is required). Those already in the school will automatically be considered when entering Year 9, based on their achievements over the preceding two years. At 16+, Scholarships are awarded mainly to those already in the school through a formal process of references, interview and written exam in the Spring Term of the Fifth Year. Those applying to join our Sixth Form may be considered following their interview and invited to our Scholarship examination in March, or after publication of GCSE results. There is an expectation of a minimum grade average of 8.3.
Academic Exhibitions
Awarded to pupils whose involvement in activities within the school is at an exceptionally high level and/or the wider community of Petersfield.
Music Scholarships
Awarded in recognition of musical excellence, the expected standard for consideration on the first study (instrument or voice) is around Grade 5 at 11+ and around Grade 6-7 at 13+, with a second study also offered. Auditions are held in January, where applicants must play two contrasted pieces on their first study and another piece on their second study, and perform aural and sight reading tests. Applications by external pupils should be made to the Admissions office. Current pupils are automatically considered throughout their time at the school. Consideration may be given to candidates offering instruments in short supply at the College. Awards come with either 5% or 10% fee remission.
Music Exhibitions
Awarded to pupils for a specific instrument where the school reimburses the cost of the individual music lessons. All Scholars and Exhibition holders are required to maintain the highest standards in achievement and behaviour at the school. Music Scholars and Exhibition holders are required to be supportive of school music making and to take part in music groups as required by the Director of Music.
Bursary Awards
Supported by the Richard Churcher Foundation, our Bursary Awards offer a limited number of bursaries for existing and prospective pupils at both schools. All bursaries are means-tested and can be awarded in cases where it would not otherwise be financially possible for the pupil to join or remain in the school. As a guide for the 2025/26 academic year, to be considered for a 75% award gross parental income must be in the range £44,600 to £58,800 depending on assets, and awards are adjusted based on the expectation of applying any significant savings, investments and property equity towards school fees. All bursaries are subject to review periodically and in the event of any material change in parental income or assets. Following an offer of a place, applications to be considered for a bursary can be made via an online form and provision of supporting documentation.

As one of the country’s leading independent day schools and proudly recognised as a Sunday Times Top 100 UK Secondary School, Churcher’s College offers an exceptional education to around 1,300 girls and boys aged 3 to 18. Here, every pupil is warmly nurtured both inside and outside the classroom, ensuring they thrive academically, personally and socially.
Just an hour from London, the school is set across two beautiful countryside campuses in Hampshire, close to the borders of Surrey and West Sussex. Our Junior School and Nursery are nestled in leafy Liphook, only ten minutes from the Senior School and Sixth Form in Petersfield. Both sites enjoy generous on-site playing fields and exceptional facilities, surrounded by green, open countryside.
Senior School Admissions. We warmly welcome girls and boys at 11+ (Year 7) and 16+ (Sixth Form) to the Senior School. Entry at other points may also be possible, subject to availability of places.
Our Admissions Team is always happy to assist, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any enquiries at admissions@churcherscollege.com.
Senior School (Years 7–11). Pupils follow a broad curriculum that includes Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Business, Biology, Latin, Classical Civilisation, Geography, Religion & Philosophy, Music, Art, Design & Technology, Computer Science, Drama, Sports Science, Spanish and French.
At GCSE, pupils study Mathematics, English Language and Literature, a Modern Language, a Humanity, and at least two additional optional subjects. In Science, pupils can choose either the AQA GCSE ‘Trilogy’ course or the separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics courses.
Sixth Form. We offer a wide range of well-regarded A level courses, encouraging students to develop a broad and deep understanding that prepares them for university and future careers. Beyond academics, students enjoy a variety of activities – from performing arts to sports – and opportunities to build leadership, teamwork and presentation skills.
Most students study three A levels, with Further Maths often taken as a fourth. Our most curious pupils can also complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
At Ramshill, our Sixth Form Centre, students enjoy greater independence alongside the support they need to succeed. They join a vibrant, ambitious community where hard work, fun and lasting friendships go hand in hand.
Facilities. Churcher’s offers excellent academic facilities, including a Music School with auditorium, state-of-the-art Design & Technology workshops, Computer Science suites, Drama studios, Art & Design studios, and a purpose-built Science block. Our sports facilities are extensive, featuring a 25-metre swimming pool, tennis and netball courts, rugby and all-weather hockey pitches, cricket squares, two fitness suites, a sports hall, and a separate gymnasium with a climbing wall.
Sport. Sport at Churcher’s offers pupils both achievement and opportunity. We are committed to developing good character, teamwork, leadership and a lifelong love of physical activity. The main sports played include rugby, hockey, netball and cricket, with additional opportunities in athletics, cross-country, swimming and tennis. The school is proud of its high participation rates across all year groups in the Saturday fixtures programme.
Extracurricular & supra-curricular. At Churcher’s, pupils enjoy a diverse range of activities, from water polo, dance, and swimming to table tennis and Strength & Conditioning. Our unique Adventure Programme features a strong CCF unit with Army, RAF, and Royal Navy sections, alongside a full Duke of Edinburgh scheme from Bronze to Gold. Kayaking, climbing, and many other outdoor adventures are also on offer.
We provide an extensive variety of clubs, including Greenpower racing, karate, fencing, sailing, basketball, chess, drama, textiles, pottery, photography, and more.
Our supra-curricular programme encourages learning beyond the classroom, with academic Olympiads, Model United Nations, STEAM activities, an engaging lecture series, and numerous educational trips.
Performing Arts flourish here, with opportunities to shine on stage in acclaimed school productions and music performances, as well as to develop backstage skills in audio and visual technology. Musicians can join orchestras, rock, jazz and wind bands, choirs, and ensembles, with plenty of chances to perform both in and outside school.
Futures Programme. Our comprehensive Futures Programme inspires and supports students throughout their time in Senior School and Sixth Form, led by a dedicated team. Highlights include the Annual Futures Convention, a breakfast networking series, a diverse range of trips and visits, interview coaching, and tailored support with applications. Specialist career pathways are also offered, including Medical, BioVet, Architecture, Law, Art, Engineering, Music, and Oxbridge preparation.
Parents’ Association. A thriving Parents’ Association lies at the heart of our school community, fostering a strong partnership between home and school and raising funds to enrich the pupils’ experience.
