Kingswood Senior School is a thriving independent co-educational day and boarding school like no other, welcoming children from 11–18 years old. As a busy boarding and day school, we offer a huge range of co-curricular opportunities, celebrating both cultural and sporting achievement.
While some pupils continue their journey from Kingswood Prep School, we welcome many new students at our various entry points (Years 7, 9 and 12) and they settle into life at Kingswood seamlessly, which is testament to the strength of our inclusive community. Pastoral care. Pastoral care is central to everything we do at Kingswood; we all want our pupils to feel good about themselves, recognise their strengths, constantly develop any areas that they find challenging and have a positive impact on the community and world around them.
Site and facilities. With an abundance of space on our 120-acre site in Lansdown, Bath, we are within easy reach of the M4 and M5 motorways, as well as having great transport links to Bristol and London. The School sits alongside original Victorian buildings and a host of modern developments, including boarding houses, a theatre, a sports hall, a sixth form centre, dining area and a café with stunning views of Bath. The nine boarding and day houses are located within the school campus. Sporting facilities also include a swimming pool, two floodlit AstroTurfs, extensive playing fields and a modern pavilion.
Curriculum. Our curriculum is engaging and interactive, enabling us to build on our pupils’ past educational experiences, and it allows them to achieve a deeper understanding of, and greater competence in, each aspect of the curriculum as they move through the School. At Sixth Form, the core curriculum consists of the study of three A levels, selected from over 20 subjects and complemented by Advanced Elective courses. Students also benefit from a General Studies and Life Skills programme, and many pursue an Extended Project Qualification.
Co-curricular. Pupils benefit from a vibrant and extensive co-curricular programme which enhances their learning experience at Kingswood. There are over 100 activities each term and the provision for sport, music and drama is outstanding. Many pupils participate in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the school hosts the annual Bath Schools Model United Nations conference.
Sports and games. Kingswood is widely recognised as one of the top schools for sport in the South-West, with students competing at both national and international levels. We are fortunate to have strong links with various professional clubs such as Bath Rugby; we work with Team Bath at Bath University so that we can support gifted and talented sportsmen and women in fulfilling their athletic potential. However, our games philosophy at Kingswood is very much ‘sport for all’, and we believe in encouraging all students, whether they be on the A, B, C or D teams, to be the best they can.
Sustainability. At Kingswood, we are passionate about the future and contributing to a fair and sustainable future for all. We recognise that we have a unique opportunity to educate and empower our pupils and wider community to share this vision and deliver this future. To this effect, the School offers a wide variety of activities, projects and programmes that engage with the many facets of sustainability.
Leavers. The vast majority of Kingswood sixth formers go on to university, either immediately after school or after a gap year. Much support is given to all Sixth Form students, including guidance on writing personal statements and interview practice. As a result of this support, the overwhelming majority of Kingswood students achieve a place at their first-choice university.
Fees per term (2024-2025). £6,447 (day); £10,183–£12,614 (weekly boarding); £11,656–£13,962 (full boarding); £10,420–£14,286 (international boarding).
EAL teaching is provided for students who do not speak English as their first language – this is invoiced separately as required. HM Forces families receive a reduction in boarding fees of up to 20% for each child.
Entry requirements. Entry at 11+ and 13+ is based on Kingswood’s own entrance examination, a report from the candidate’s current school and, where possible, a personal or group interview. Sixth Form entry is dependent on performance at interview, current school report and GCSE achievement.
Scholarships and bursaries. Academic and Special Talent scholarships are available annually to our day and boarding pupils entering Years 7, 9 and Lower Sixth. Special Talent scholarships are awarded for excellence in a particular field: Art, Drama, Music, Sport, Design Technology. John Wesley Awards are also available for boarders. Scholarships generally include an annual fee remission of £1,500, plus an annual grant of £500 to be used to further develop a pupil's passion and skills in their chosen area of excellence. Means-tested bursaries, worth up to 100% of fees, are available in Years 7, 9 and 12.
