Norwich School is a co-educational, independent day school for pupils aged four to eighteen. Set in the Cathedral Close, Norwich School is a traditional, yet lively place where boys and girls enjoy a rounded and stimulating education. The school is characterised by strong, warm relationships and a profound appreciation of scholarship.
The school achieves exceptional results but we believe that an education for life is about more than statistics. Here we enjoy local character, beautiful surroundings and a remarkable history. Staff and pupils together create a supportive atmosphere and boys and girls benefit from specialised facilities and a broad curriculum.
The pupil journey. A lifelong love of learning is at the heart of the holistic educational journey for each Norwich School pupil. The wider Norwich School family of staff, parents, alumni and other supporters works together to nurture our young people, both in Cathedral Close and beyond.
Values. Our community’s daily activities and relationships are nurtured by the timeless guiding concepts of inclusion, love and compassion.
Mission.  We have a restless ambition for self-improvement at the forefront of pedagogical innovation in local, national and international contexts; a beacon in the East of educational excellence.
Aims.
Inspiring young people to develop their curiosity in intellectual, creative and practical spheres, thereby establishing capacity for pupils to become reflective thinkers who are capable of handling complex concepts and articulate expression in varied media;
Enabling every pupil to fulfil their unique potential by establishing a platform of rich and varied educational opportunity;
Creating for all pupils opportunities in leadership and service which will empower them to be ambitious forces for good in communities throughout their lives.
Pastoral. The Senior School is organised by Houses. Pupils are allocated to a House upon joining the school, and stay with that House as they move up through the year groups. Many of a pupil’s first and firmest friendships will be forged within the House.
Each of the eight Houses is managed by a Head of House – a senior member of staff who comes to know the pupils and their families very well during their years of association with the House, and who brings compassion and continuity to a pupil’s life. If a problem arises, the tutor will involve the Head of House in its resolution; they are familiar figures in the school who offer a blend of experience and encouragement.
Sixth Form. Life in the Sixth Form is a busy and rewarding experience, combining rigorous academic scholarship and commitment to a range of extra-curricular activities, as well as leadership and service roles. Our aim is to ensure that all pupils reach their potential and are able to apply for the university courses and career paths of their choice.
Extra-curricular activity. There are many areas of life beyond the classroom that serve to fulfil the aim of a broad and varied education. Encompassed within the programme are challenges, opportunities for service, group cooperation, team participation and leadership. All are seen as central to the educational experience of each school member.
It is hoped that every pupil will find something from the programme which will influence and stay with them far beyond their school days.
Bursaries. Norwich School sets aside generous funds to enable pupils to attend the school who would otherwise not be able to do so without financial help. Bursaries are available in the Senior School only.
All bursaries are means-tested and can result in a reduction in fees of up to 100%; there is a sliding scale based on family income and finances and resources of the school.
Scholarships. The school offers a range of awards for excellence in five areas: academic excellence (11+, 13+ & 16+), music (11+, 13+ & 16+), sport (11+, 13+ & 16+), performing arts (16+ only) and art & design (16+ only). A place on one of our scholarship programmes is made available to Senior School pupils with outstanding ability, potential and flair, which the school assesses by examination, interview, portfolio and audition, as appropriate.
Means tested financial support is also available to applicants applying for these awards.
Admission. The main points of entry are at ages 4, 7, 11, 13 and 16. Applications to other year groups are also considered.
Fees per term (2024-2025). Senior School: £7,091; Lower School (Years 3–6): £6,463; Lower School (Reception–Year 2): £4,810 (includes lunch).
Partnerships. Norwich School is committed to providing partnership opportunities and carrying out outreach work with both local, national and international organisations. Our ethos talks of a loving and compassionate community and one of our key aims is to prepare our young people for a lifetime of leadership and service.
Our pupils and staff are actively encouraged to undertake voluntary activities in the wider community, from fundraising to offering practical help, and sharing curriculum and staff development opportunities.
The school's commitment to making a positive impact in the community drives our decision-making and our activities reflect the breadth and depth of our relationships with the schools, charities and organisations we work with.
Old Norvicensians. All former pupils automatically become Old Norvicensians (ONs for short) for their life beyond school. Our Development Office runs a busy schedule of alumni engagement: reunions, networking events and publications, as well as a well-supported public lecture series with external partner organisations.
Charitable status. Norwich School is a Registered Charity, number 311280. It exists solely to provide education.
